Another Doggie Day

Here's Major as a pup. Look how little he was then. (He's an English Golden Retriever.) Oh, the biting on everything. This must've looked like a neat stick, right inside the house! Problem was, he couldn't move it to take it with him as he ran away from me.

After I laughed a bit, 'cause puppies are the cutest things, and snapped this picture, I got serious. He looked at me as if to say, "This is mine, I found it first. Just help me take it to my cushion, please."

Grabbing the Bitter Apple Spray, I think the name was Granny's Bitter..., oh I can't remember, but something like that, I sprayed all the chair rungs, and hoped it wouldn't stain. Major went back to try again, but just the smell and one tiny air lick persuaded him otherwise. Yeah for Granny and her apples!

"The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Thy lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting." Psalms 138:8

How many times do my ideas, and maybe even my motives seem great. Boy, it sure looks good, sounds good and wouldn't I be proud of myself. I would take it back to my cushion and chew that stick in all its glory.

Then impulsive bitterness coats my tongue and heart as God shows me other plans, better plans, so nothing would get harmed in the process--including me. I need to check with the Master first, in all things.

Have you ever been sprayed?

Good post. I'm aware of that bitter apple spray for pups AND aware of how God, in effect, sprays us. May I never be too proud to admit when I do wrong in the eyes of the Lord and be willing to accept his guidance.

Great post! I love your thoughts, Karen, you speak to my soul...and yes I have been sprayed many times and yet I seem to go right back to that same chair and chew on that same stick, knowing full well that the results will be bitter spray again and again.
Thank you for reminding me that the spray is not worth the pride.
Hugs, friend

karen, this is exactly what the Lord just showed us this past two weeks. our plan and way versus His Plan and better way! at first, we felt very disappointed...a little bitter...but yesterday it became clear that it's for our welfare and good. Yay, God!!!

Oh, I want one of those darling pups! If only they stayed little...

Yes, I've been sprayed, too many times to count. I hate that I NEEDED to be sprayed, but thank God for his mercy, or I'd have splinters in my gums and paws.

Karen, what a great illustration and a challenging truth for all of us! Yes, I've been sprayed, but I'm so glad God loves me enough to rescue me from myself!

This is my first visit to your blog - but not my last! Wonderful post!

Parsley, thanks. Pride can be such a sly stick.

Karyn, you're most welcome. I think my stick is almost worn through by my biting. :P

Janean, I'm so glad to hear that. I think that's always a hard one for me. But God probably snaps a pic, and laughs until I finally learn, because He loves.

Jeanette, yes, they do grow up, but sometimes still act like pups. Oh, can you pull this splinter out,...it's right here....

Glenda, thanks so much for stopping by. Yes, I thanks Him for His love. Blessings.

Thank you for another thought-provoking post Karen. I will definitely try to think before I speak a bit more.

I hope you don't mind but I have a little "award" waiting for you at my blog.

Best wishes for a wonderful week,
Natasha.

Dear Karen: Forgive me for asking here, but I can't find your email address on your profile, and am too lazy to switch to my old computer, where it's stored:

How did you do that photobucket slide show on your side bar? I went to photo bucket, downloaded all the photos I wanted to use, but cannot figure out how to get them to my blog. Please advise.

Thanks, Jen

Natasha, thanks so much for my award! You are soooo sweet.

Kathryn, puppies are darling, but lots of work. Major is almost 3, now. Good for you for taking grown dogs!

Hilary, thanks, his face was so cute it was hard to discipline him. :)

Jeanette, no problem asking here. I believe I have yours. I'll try to explain, what I did. Ha, although I'm not so sure. :P Trial and error.

That apple spray, what a great idea for puppies! Thanks for sharing it. regarding me being 'sprayed', it probably happens often! :-) - Dave

Oh yes! I am quite familiar with the bitter apple spray! ;0) I'm trying to stay away from it, by listening to God before running off with my own plans! It's a process. ;0)

Great post, Karen!

Dave, yes, I've only heard of a few puppies who liked it. Worked great for us.

Melinda, I know God has gallons in the cupboard, just for me. :)

Adorable picture! And a great anology. It is so easy to get "good ideas" that seem so easy to acomplish. I'm slowly learning to think those great ideas through before I act.
...The learning process is slow. ;)

Hey there...Rocco is my biter since he is teething! You sure put a new perspective on it! Thanks for that! I need to keep it in mind much more often!!!

Karen said...

Emily, I'm right there with you!

Libbie, oh, don't use the spray on Rocco. :) He's such a cutie!

Well my dear you have done it again. When do you intend to start your book of blog devotions? Love this post and am not even going to start counting the times God had to spray what I was chewing on. Sometimes twice! Love to you Clella
