Uhhh, Huhhh

How many times I wished my babies could talk, instead of the "uhhh, huhhh?" I never knew exactly what they wanted unless it was obvious. (Like my grandson here. Mouth closed, but you know what he wants--up.)

You practice words and sounds over and over. Why? Just to hear the words? No, because, usually it starts with, "Mama-Mama-Mama, or Da-Da-Da-Da," over and over again until you yell, "stop."

But you want them to spend time learning so as they can communicate thoughts, feelings, and wants. Then you find out what's really going on in their little heads. You can anticipate what they are thinking and how they relate to things. (Now that can be good or bad!)

Oh, and then there's the stage where you can't get them to shut up-but that's for another post.

"And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition....for you Father knows what you need, before you ask Him." Matthew 6:7-8

Do my repetitive prayers sound like Da-Da-Da....to my Lord, over and over again? If God knows what I want, why pray?

Could it be He wants to communicate with me so I can know more about Him? I love talking in earnest with my children. Do I talk in earnest with my heavenly Father?

Lord, may I give you joy, this day with deep conversation with You.

Diane, yes, just like we answer our childrens needs, so He does for us. :)

You make a very real point here Karen. It also applies to communication with others. Repetition should be avoided I think? - Dave

I often feel like that, Karen ... why would God want to hear me continue to bring him the same tired requests, thoughts and struggles. I know in my heart that He wants to hear me and wants me to grow as I get to know Him more. Thank you for the beautiful reminder!

I sometimes wonder if God tires of my asking for the same things over and over. But then I remember: He is patient, and He understand before I ask. I need to ask, to acknowledge that He is my source of supply.

Love you,
Jen

God seems to use repetition in His Word over and over again. Probably because most of us a hard of hearing and have a difficult time learning the lessons of life He wants to teach us.

As for our communication to God it should always be with respect and reverence and at the same time open and honest as we would talk to our earthly father. Sometimes this can be a difficult balance to find. Thank God He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us know how to pray.

Dave, I agree, it can be aggravating.

Reanaclaire, thanks so much for stopping by. Will check out your blog. You are so right. Sometimes my emotions overtake my thoughts and can't verbalize, but I'm glad the Lord knows.

Kathryn, thanks so much. Have a good day.

Melinda, I know exactly what you mean. And I think it's joy to Him that we do come. PTL

Jeanette, yes, I like that, "He is my source of supply."

Old Geezer, I just chuckle everytime I say your "name." Yes, I know I'm at fault for not listening to Him. I'm soooo glad He always listens to me.

I'm sure by now that God would love to stick His fingers in His ears after listening to my constant babbling, whining and pleading! But the more I stop all that and listen to Him, the sweeter is our conversation and He reveals some of the most wondorous things! And hopefully, I will graduate from incoherent most of the times (Thank you, Lord for understanding jibberish!) to joyful communications.

Donna, I totally agree. I'm so glad He understands my "un-words."

Lovely. Sometimes I forget that God really wants to relate to me in that way. Thank you for the reminder!
