Two Fer

Photo-Suat Eman

Noticed how the price of bread has increased since last year? The grocery bill is crazy! Do you feel the same way?

Our financial crunch demands more planning with the grocery bill. As a good steward of money, I want to fix meals that will only cost $2 per person. I have a few ideas, but I need your help. Now don't send me PBJ sandwiches or breakfast foods, or dollar value meals at burger joints-I've got those covered.

"She is like merchant ships; she brings her food from afar. She rises also while it is still night, and gives food to her household, and portions to her maidens." Proverbs 31:14-15

Okay, there are things in these verses that I don't do. But I can stretch the idea a bit, like when I go to Sam's, which is about 20 minutes away-that's far, right? And I come home laden like a merchant ship. Ummm, the rising while still night-I do that to get ready for work, if the sun's not up yet. Maidens-well that can be kids. But the idea is this perfect woman works hard to provide food for her household, is a good steward of her money and extends kindness to those who are her employees. I want to please the Lord with my money.

Here's the challenge. What can I buy/fix for two dollars a person? The best suggestion will recieve a special award to hang on your blog. Sorry no monetary reward-I'm watching my money, remember? :)

I've got my recipe file ready.

What fun! I will work on this. I assume dog food doesn't count? LOL

Anything involving rice or potatos. Potato pancakes are yummy to me!

Layered Beefy Surprise

1 lb of lean ground beef @ $3.50; half a package of Tater tots or Tater puffs@ $2.00; 1 can of cream of mushroom or cheddar cheese soup @ $2.00, for a total of $7.50.

Spread the ground beef in a 6 x 9 glass baking dish. Smooth the soup over the beef--do not add milk to the soup! Arrange the tater tots side by side in a layer atop the soup, to fill up the pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes, or until the taters are brown and meat is thoroughly cooked. Makes 6 servings, which is 1.25 per serving. You can add fresh or canned fruit as a side dish without it going over $2.00 per person for the whole meal. Yippee dippee!

What a fun idea as a contest! Thanks for asking.

Jeanie, no, dog food doesn't count, my dog eats it all!

Diane, sounds like a great idea-I can add all sorts of things from the frig and pantry.

Jeanette, this sounds good. Wow, you even included side dishes!

Thanks ya'll

As soon as you said no drive-through that counted me out! What about opening a can of soup?

Hi Karen,
Thank you for stopping by my blog and sharing your chocolate story! Who knows, maybe free chocolate is in your future...you can serve that for desert to cut costs.
Spaghetti and meatballs is always a staple and low cost!

Johnnie, you are too funny! Yes, soups are good, but I don't always want them in the summer. Funny, isn't it, that I eat all kinds of other "hot" stuff. I need a mind re-arrange.:)

Stephanie, oh, I think chocolate IS a food group. We could just have that instead, right? Especially since dark chocolate is good for you-that's what my mom says. Thanks for stopping by!
