Waaait for It.....

My husband and I follow the pastor's sermon outline, filling in the open blanks. My husband likes to nudge me to show his filled in words before the pastor gets to them. Even though I may be able to figure them out, I prefer to wait, absorbing the moment until it comes.

I'm the same way with gifts. I love to wait until the right time, building the excitment of the unknown. My husband, yes, you guessed it, he wants to know what everything is beforehand.

"Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the LORD." Psalms 27:14

There are some things in life only the Lord can provide. The farmers when they have done all they can do, whether or not they believe in God, must wait and rely on "nature." God drops the rain, shines the sun, and grants the increase.

There are times in life that I hate being in "the waiting room." Such as waiting to see my grandkids again, waiting to know about new jobs, waiting to see if my dad's eye surgery is successful...things which only God can change and control. It's hard to be strong and courageous, but that's when my eyes are on me and not on God.

The daily work to fight off impatience and wait, you'd think would be easier because of my temperament, but it's not. As a writer I strive to channel emotions and thoughts with the "exquisitness (is that a word?) of the battle between apprehension and peace."

What things do you like to wait for, or don't mind waiting for?
What things drive you crazy to have to wait for, and how do you cope?

(Notice I didn't use the dreaded "P" word.)

Okay, already, hurry up and answer!

Oh, Karen, you hit a sore spot. I don't like to wait for anything. Except the alarm to go off; that I can wait for!

Yes, exquisiteness is a word I do believe. I may have spelled it wrong. But I can't wait to look it up in the dictionary! Oh well.

I can wait, but I need to know. I want the game plan. I wrote a devotion about waiting based on the Israelites and the cloud and pillar of fire. Sometimes I could use those signs.

Glad you didn't use the dreaded "P" word! LOL. I like to reframe a time of waiting into the word anticipation. sounds more positive yet when you are in that foggy time, it is very hard to see when the end or the next step is coming.

Jen, no I don't like the alarm clock either, so on days we can sleep in, my dog likes to wake us up at regular work time....sigh.....

Kathy, yes, I KNOW I would follow a pillar of fire!

Jean, okay, I'm in the "anticipation room." You know that does sound better.

I'm so with you, Karen! I am not good at the "P" word at all. But working in the publishing world helps cure you of that, doesn't it???! ;0)

Melinda, ha, I guess it does. That's the "Never Ending Story!"

Well you know I have been gone so I am just not getting around to reading and catching up! Waiting for God to work His wonders in my life has always been difficult and the dreaded word is supposed to be a gift of the Spirit. I have grown, but I still must admit I have a long way to go yet. Karen, I feel you are doing so well in this season of waiting. You are an encouragement to me . Good writing here. Blessings

Karen, this is a beautiful (and exquisitely) written post. I choked up a little reading it. An elderly aunt once told me that one of the hardest things about being a woman is waiting. She was especially talking about her husband being away during WW2, but other times also. You write with such lovely grace.
