It's Halloween, but Tomorrow is Scarier!

Today, with all the little and big monsters roaming around, doesn't scare me nearly as much as November 1st. Oh, the terror! Okay, Sunday starts the worldwide event of National Novel Write Month, affectionately known as Nano.

This wild and crazy group, headed up by Chris Baty at Nanowrimo, wants everyone to join up and write an unedited novel in one month! Yes, you heard me right, ONE month, 50,000 words. Now that's scary!

I tried last year and actually did finish with 50,000+ words. Can you believe it? I have a book, terribly unfinished and unedited, but the story is there for me to work on. The story line just came as I wrote. Crazy! But actually fun, once I got started. You can sign up to write even today or anytime in the month of November. The writing group I'm with, Kindred Heart Writers, decided we would all try this year! Three of us will be writing fiction, and the other two, non-fiction. See, they even give you a choice.

Should you desire to accept this mission, you will have 30 days to complete your task. After that your computer will self-destruct. Oh, not really. But you do get a neat award to put on your blog or web and meet some really neat folks in the process.

Now what verse can I use for this wild and crazy idea?

"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all the the glory of God."
I Corinthians 10:31

So if you do try to write a novel, which I hope you will-or just for fun, write as much as you can. If you don't make the goal, at least you will have written alot more than if you had not. :)

You won't know, unless you try.

On your mark, get set, Goooooooo!

I'm not the writer in the family. My 13 year old daughter is. She's working on her first novel.

Good luck to you on your efforts.

The closer it gets, the more I'm thinking about my characters. Just wish I had an opening line to get me started!

You go girl!

Katara is very interested in a preteen devotion book based on Women of the Bible so I am writing away on that just in case. I would need 365 devotions!!! It's hard to stay fresh, creative and imaginative for 40 much less 365!!! So I'll be writing away with you, just not fiction.

Parsley, oh, good luck to your daughter! What an ambition at 13! But hey, you write on your blog.....?

Johnnie, wow, I have my opening line, or rather the idea, but not nearly the research and line like you. How 'bout we trade? :)

Kathy, cool, are you doing Nano?? How great is that idea. Yeah, my granddaughter just turned 9. Go for it!

Good luck with Nano. I won't be participating - officially. I am in the middle of a WIP and don't want to abandon it to start something new. But, I am going to used November as my goal to get it done. Keep us posted on your progress.

Wow, Karen, that's a huge goal. I've heard it said that if you don't set a target you certainly won't hit it.

I guess since I write non-fiction I'm off the hook?

Best wishes for a productive writing time this month, Karen. May God bless your efforts abundantly, girl! :)

Amy, a WIP is definitely a great goal. I will let you know how it goes....unless I get too far behind. :0

Julie, well, I guess that statement is true but hard?! Hey, no way are you off the hook, they take fiction AND non-fiction! Thanks for the encouragement!
