Mary DeMuth does it again! In this memoir Mary shares the haunting story of her childhood and it's effects in her life. I must admit it was hard for me to read some parts as my heart cried out for the injustice she experienced. But as the book moves forward, she shares how the Lord helped her cope.
I know this book will help others connect by her openness and vulnerability of story. Thin Places occur in her life when heaven draws near and meets her on earth, as if only a thin veil separates the two.
She writes of truth, lies, brutality, forgiveness, rejection, and coming to understand God's supreme sacrifice given for her. Her poems ring with passion, her words give voice to raw emotions, so much so that I even experienced dreams with my heart so torn.
Then she lifts up her soul to praise the Lord for what He's done so far.
Two quotes:
"Much of what God does in my life is healing the past in order to embrace the future. He heals my fear of enemies so I will embrace my family. He heals my fear of men so I can embrace my husband. He heals my running so I can stop and notice the beauty of today."
"Why do I go through all this recollection? So God can renew me so I can help others find healing."
There you go. That's why this book is so important.

Thank you so much, Karen, for writing a review and featuring Thin Places!
I need to get that next time I do a book order.

I love Mary. She is so real. And I loved her memoir. Great review, Karen.
Did you know that's a photo of her on the cover? One of my blog followers told me.
Bina, whoo hoo, I love new books. Thank you so much!
Sara, it's a rather hard read, but when you know it's truth, you go on.
Mary, thanks for stopping by and God bless you!
Kathy, it definitely is one of a kind.
Kate, the cover is good, read the comment under yours!
Thanks, Jeanette, wow, I did not know that. Her trailer is haunting, too.
Thanks for stopping by, my daughter is a center, and I am so nervous this time around! They have won the state tournament at their level before, and this year is their year. We have had some coaching setbacks, but our girls have the talent and the determination, they just need the faith. Just trying to give them all the love they need!
Have a wonderful Valentine's Day, hopefully you get to share it with someone special. My poor hubby has to work that day, so my lucky kids get to spend the day of love with their favorite mom! (I am sure they are very excited...giggle, giggle! Good thing I have a wonderful sense of humor, I need it!) Take care,
Kate
And I am heading to the library tomorrow, we have a very small library here, and my librarian loves me, so she orders books that are not currently in our system for me. She is such a treasure to have. Hoping they have your book in the system, but if not...
Hi Karen-
Mary is amazing, isn't she?
The cover of the book is captivating all in itself. I am sure she appreciates a great review.
Florida must be wonderful...over 40" of snow has fallen in less than a week in my neck of the woods here outside of Philadelphia.
Ah, the sun...can't wait!
Thank you, Karen for stopping by to visit me in the virtual world. You are a great neighbor!
Thin Places sounds like a sad, if not inspiring book. - Dave
I'd not heard of this book -- and what a beautiful, poignant title!
Kate, I hope the game was a success! So fun to watch your kids! I'm sorry your hubbie has to work Sunday. Happy Valentines to you!
Stephanie, I can't believe--40"!!! Wow. Hope your Valentine is full of love. :)
Dave, yes it was sad in spots, but the book is about the overcoming.
Kathryn, she writes well, on these heavy topics.
I love Mary DeMuth ... this sounds like a somewhat difficult read, but I'm confident Mary had approached it in a way that makes the reader feel hopeful, encouraged and inspired by the God Who brought her through it!
