L, M. N, O-Possum!

Just when I think I have seen it all in my backyard, this happens!

It was dark and foggy early one morning last week. I was drinking my coffee before work when we heard a loud noise. It sounded like a huge heavy-weight squirrel pounced on my patio screen. Hubbie and dog jumped up to look. Hubbie turned on the light, but didn't see anything.

Then the dogs next door started barking frantically and their owner had to call them inside several times. We thought then it was one of the neighborhood's "free range" cats.

When it was light I let Major out again. He ran behind the trees and bushes and stopped dead in his tracks and just stared. Sooo, I walked around and saw this! On our PVC fence!! I frantically called the dog in and got my camera. (Okay-I'm a nut case with the pics...sorry.)
Euuueeeee! What to do? Those possums are creepy. He was stuck there-dogs on either side. The animal control wanted too much money to come get him. So, I went on to work, and sometime in the morning he got down. Amazing! (He must have jumped to the fence from a tree?) As much as I was scared, he must've been more so.
"'If you'll hold on to me for dear life,' says God, 'I'll get you out of any trouble. I'll give you the best of care if you'll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I'll answer, be at your side in bad times; I'll rescue you, then throw you a party. I'll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!'" Psalm 91:14-16

Lord, I'm a'holding! Remember the O-Possum.

Karen, I'm sorry -- they're just ugly. Those long tails? I do NOT like possums!

Animal control charges? Don't we pay taxes for that?

Oh yeah, your lesson. I agree -- hang on. :0)

Opossoms are mean looking and acting. They just scare me a little.

AHHH! I'm back online! Sending hugs.

I like the possum we have hanging out here...our very own marsupial. And he keeps the neighbors cats out of the yard.

I quite like the little guys. I haven't seen any for quite a few years now but they've been around in the summer. I had one young one on my dining room window ledge one evening.. stayed there for at least an hour. I think they're cute in an ugly sort of way.

Karen, I am surprised at the appearance of your opossums. We have the Australian opossums here in NZ. I think they are less rodent-looking. - Dave

Ugh, they are such ugly little beasties! I have had them sitting outside looking in the back door and those beedy eyes just scare the stuffing out of me...be careful of them out during the day, as they can carry rabies (sorry to be such a Ma).
XOXO

Man, possums are strange and scary-looking creatures! Except for this one: http://yhoo.it/hxAui8. This one makes me want a pet possum. lol

Oh he is so ugly, isn't he? But I love how you turn the appearance of this creature into a lesson.

I think most of the comments were about his ugliness not his situation. funny. you certainly got a reaction for this post! good message too.

They are funny creatures . . . and not the most purty of the animal kingdom for sure; poor babies! :-D

Oh, you all make me laugh!!! My reaction was to be scared and a bit repulsed at the same time.

Terri, I didn't know they kept cats away! Wow.

Hilary, lol cute in an ugly way, well maybe the babies-but this one kept snarling! Yikes!

Parsley, you mean this is a critter you don't "cotton to?" ha!

Kathryn, oh stop....snicker.....

It is wonderful that you can see a lesson from God in everything. I think you fit into the group with Laura's post about the ordinary.Kindred Hearts all seem to have a view for the extra-ordinary and that is why I love you all. Clella

COOL! So cool you were able to capture it on camera. I never seem to have my camera (or even the camera on my phone) around when I need it.

Eeeeeeeeek! You should set up one of those motion detector cameras out there.

Seems to me you were pretty brave to get those photos! Poor guy. I hope the dogs on the other side didn't have possum stew for lunch.

Love the version of the Bible you used for that verse! What version is that, Karen?

Oh, I hate possums! When I was in high school, my sister and I were up late one night watching a movie and started hearing noises in the garage. Being drama queen teen girls, we assumed it was some maniacal killer out to get us. We grabbed a kitchen knife and threw open the garage door to find a possum sitting up on one of our cars hissing! We woke up Dad! :)

Diane, say that's an idea!

Clella, you are such a dear.

Stephanie, I HAD to get my camera so ya'll would believe me! :)

Angie, now that's not a bad idea!

Johnnie, I think he got away fine. I didn't get too close, I used my zoom!

Melinda, I used the Message version. Oh wow, that was a bad possom experience, too!
